By: Lexi Martin
On August 17 the Ripley Viking golf team had their first tournament where they placed 3rdout of 60. Their second tournament was at Parkersburg South on Tuesday, August 27 at the MSAC Conference where they placed 10th.

“We’re a young team with only two seniors and we hadn’t had that many matches, so we were unprepared for the conference match,” senior Taylor Casto commented.

There are a lot of new freshmen on the team and there is also a new head coach, Kevin McClung.McClung is well liked and has a lot of experience with golf since he played all his life and is a scratch golfer.

“Everybody likes the coach, he helps us get better every day and always makes it fun,” Casto said.

There are only two seniors on the team this year includingCasto and Logan Reynolds. The rest of the team consists of underclassmen.

“We hope to send at least two people to states this year,” Reynolds said. Last year the team only sent one.

The team’s next tournament is September 10 at Oglebay Park in Wheeling.
