December 20,
2013, an all new kind of ‘con’ movie was released to theaters. Directed by
David Russell (“Silver Linings Playbook”, “The Fighter”), “American Hustle” is
one of the greatest movies that came out last year.
“American Hustle” is a crime/drama/comedy
film about con-man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), and his cute faux British
partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams). Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper), an
obsessive FBI Agent, forces Sydney to work for him in lieu of jail time. Throughout
the film, the con jobs become increasingly complicated, involving mayors, congressmen,
senators, and the mob. At the same time, Irving’s extravagant wife, Rosalyn
Rosenfeld (Jennifer Lawrence) is inadvertently making every scenario more
difficult. Eventually Irving and Sydney realize they may be in over their head
and escaping future troubles becomes the main priority.
On IMDb, the movie has a 7.6/10 rating, a
93% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 90 on Metacritic which are all good reviews. Officially
it is rated R because there is sex and nudity, violence and gore, profanity,
alcohol/drugs/smoking.
Critics say that
“American Hustle” is a “high energy comedy that comes naturally to the
filmmaker” and “the warmth that courses through ‘American Hustle’ makes it
irresistible” Wall Street Journal and Washington Post judges.
This movie has been nominated for 10 Oscars
including Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Performance by an Actor in a
Leading Role, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Best
Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Performance by an Actress in
a Supporting Role, and more. Tune in March 2 to see if they win! “American
Hustle” was nominated for so many awards, 10 being a very prominent amount,
because it was one of the best movies of 2013. It was named this because of the
spectacular acting, directing, and cinematography.
