Head football coach Eddie Smolder spent countless nights trying to figure out what needed to be done in order for the team to excel. After months of deep thinking, he decided he needed to switch up some of the coaching.
“Sayre was kind of dragging us down. I needed someone that was more intimidating and determined, so I did what needed to be done. I know he will say he quit, but just for the record, he was cut,” said Smolder.
While teacher Steve Sayre brought years of experience to the team, his style of coaching was outdated, and had no effect on the players. The new defensive coordinator is none other than Sayre’s wife.
“I wear the pants in the family and make all the calls. I used to coach wrestling with him, and even then he would frequently come to me for advice because he knows that I am a much better candidate than him,” said teacher, and new defensive coordinator Elizabeth Sayre.
The team is looking forward to this new chapter of Viking football. Many athletes believe that this is just what they were needing to push them to greatness. They have high expectations for next season.
“All I have to say is, get a stop, Sayre,” said ex coach, Steve Sayre.
