The archery team is one of the largest clubs on our campus. The team has expanded to a mass of 30 members since its starting year of 2005. The group has grown to such a large extent from being a welcoming team that everyone enjoys being a part of. In fact, the archery team is still welcoming new members until the January 26.
Senior Sydney Casto says “Being on the team gives you a chance to compete but it also offers a family like experience. We’re all always having fun and I think that is something everyone should get a chance to be involved in.”
The team practices every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 5:15 in the cafeteria until further notice. These usually consist of endless laughter, great times, and tons of memories being made. The team is big on making everything they do fun and entertaining.
Senior Jessica Runion explained her favorite memory “After stopping to eat at a restaurant team member Corey Hill decided to smash his ice cream cone into coach Gary’s face.”
This of course gave everyone on the team a good laugh but now it has become a tradition for the students. This year the team has a few freshmen in mind to be the lucky member that keeps the tradition going by serving coach Gary his ice cream cone to the face.
Archery is a big part of many of the student bodies lives such as sophomore Dakota Parsons who says, “I grew up shooting my bow with my grandparents and I’ve always enjoyed it. I wanted to continue shooting at school to better my skills,” he said.
Not everyone gets the chance to learn to shoot at home but that’s okay. The coaches are there to help, and the school has bows available for students who need them.
If you’re looking for a team that will welcome you as if you were part of the family this is the team for you. Archery has no drawbacks. So, make sure to come join them at practice. You won’t regret it!
